Here is the Virtual Farm tour for 1/16/07

First the images from "more rain expected . . ."

the 'out of focus' effect really works on this one!
These were on the 13th.

Here we go, out the massage room door (the only ice free entry).

Passing the first flock, we see the bridge (center right) and a disc golf 'basket' (the metal on the fence post at left). The bottom of the metal was the flood level.

Here is a shot of the bridge with my back to the 'basket.' Three trailer loads of rock fresh from Austin Cemetery applied just before the flood.
.
A view to the south, walking up to the big flock. This was about a foot deep in water during the flood.

Here is the big flock, with Erica's rooster at center.

These two go together, showing how far one must carry fifty pound bags of feed.
The view is from the cliff next to the big flock.

Here is a typical 'infrastructure snag.' The yellow insulator shows the wire. All through the farm debris had to be removed from wire and nets.

Our critically endagered Mottled Javas, who were in the middle of the flood. Water was about two feet deep and flowing 20-30 mph through their pasture.

More of the Javas. Small tractor in front is my original one from Oakmont. Areas of silt almost a foot deep in this pasture.

View from the nest.

The homestead.

This shot shows alignment with Nature.
Way in the back, by the tree, you can see the bathtub that was in this shelter.

Here is our beautiful pond, built by our good neighbor John.
Flood level was about two foot higher than pond level.

And finally back to where we started with the first flood picture on the front porch.
Hope you enjoyed this farm tour. While pictures can never convey the experience of this, maybe they will spark your imagination. Farming with Nature is really a trip!
Come see us soon.
